Fairfax Parents Need to Unite!

Greetings Friends!

So many great things are happening and I simply don't have time to write as much as I would like. I'm going to copy and e-mail from Stephanie Lundquist-Aurora IWN Fairfax w/ important information regarding the school board below. Forgive me if you've seen it.

For Mount Vernon District Friends, there is a MOUNT VERNON TOWN HALL tomorrow, Saturday morning at 9:00am at Whitman Middle School Lecture Hall. Please come to see what's happening.

There are a lot of parental rights issues, policies and bills being discussed at all levels of Government, so this may be a good time to ask where your elected leadership stands on the issues.

Please check out the school board updates below and consider signing up to speak at the next meeting!

Dear IWN friends,

January is off to an exciting start. IWN Senior Fellow Asra Nomani first broke the storyabout the Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology awards scandal, and now at least eight Fairfax County public high schools, have admitted to withholding student commendation awards. The county seems to be waking up to the board’s war on merit for the sake of equity, and its corrupt spending initiatives – such as the $455,000sole-source contract Superintendent Michelle Reid issued to her buddies at Performance Fact Inc, to pursue equity initiatives in the FCPS Strategic Plan.

*PUBLIC FUNDS FOR EDUCATION NEED TO FOLLOW STUDENTS – THE CASE FOR SCHOOL CHOICE*

In light of these developments, it is increasingly clear that America’s families need more options for education – and the public-school boondoggle needs to be reformed and have competition. When you have a moment, check out IWF’s Education Freedom Center to find out more about what educational freedom means, and what we can do to advocate for it together.

*UPCOMING EVENTS – MARK YOUR CALENDARS*

1) NSCW CELEBRATION - For starters, I’m happy to announce that National School Choice Week is quickly approaching (22-28 January 2023). IWN/IWF is co-hosting an event with EdReform VA on Saturday, January 28 at 6 p.m. at Rockland’s BBQ (3471 Washington Blvd, Arlington, VA 22201). The event is free and family-friendly. Featured speakers will include IWN’s very own lovely and talented Julie Gunlock and WMAL’s Larry O’Connor. PLEASE RSVP if you’d like to attend this event at: https://edreformva.org/northern-virginia-school-choice-week-celebration/ - and for those nearby, let me know if you’d like to join me and pile in my minivan. 😊

2) FCPS Budget HearingMonday, January 23 @ 6 p.m. – Luther Jackson Middle School – Please sign-up to speak today! You can even speak virtually from the comfort of your home. They are so wasteful and we need to call them out on that. https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1-csQQlszvfzB5gSNnQIal9VHaLrOfZOM-7eOEsSmLag/viewform?edit_requested=true

3) FCPS Regular Board Meeting and PARENT RALLY (SAVE MERIT, STOP THE CORRUPTION) – Our *rally* will begin at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, January 26 in the parking lot of Luther Jackson Middle School, 3020 Gallows Rd, Falls Church, VA 22042, (right before the Board meeting begins). Please make “Save Merit” signs. Board members need to know that they will not get away with their corruption over the last four years. If interested in sharing your views, you can register to speak for the meeting beginning tomorrow morning at the following link: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1ivN9YIJeuu3kHRYX_ilq2SRNHFwhGMfIYzazmpsEYX8/closedform

If you’re inclined, please share this event information with like-minded friends. Thanks!

With gratitude and optimism,

Shelly Arnoldi
